The distracted driving ordinance will go into effect today, but the public will have 30 days to get used to the change. The recently passed law makes all hand-held cell phone use while driving a secondary offense.


A driver will have to violate one of the "rules of the road," such as running a stop sign while texting or while holding a phone to talk, before the person can be cited for distracted driving.
